The best way to start a new habit: Being specific about what you want and how you're going to achieve it helps you resist things that undermine progress, distract you, and throw you off track. We often say yes to small requests because we're not clear enough about what we need to do to reject them. When your goals are vague, it's easy to rationalize small exceptions throughout the day and never deal with the specifics of what needs to be done to succeed.
